Prostitution ring busted, man charged with trafficking

A Chicago man has been charged with human trafficking for allegedly forcing women to work as prostitutes in the city and suburbs.
Troy Bonaparte, 45, threatened to kill the women if they quit and, in one instance, said he would kill relatives of one of the women when they tried to intervene, according to the state's attorney's office.
Bonaparte -- who has 55 other arrests on his record -- was busted by Cook County sheriff's police after officers answered an Internet ad at a motel in Elk Grove Village and found one of the women, officials said.
Bonaparte was caught in a room across the hall with a second woman. A third woman was located at another nearby motel, the office said. The women are 19, 24 and 30 years old.
Bonaparte had recruited the women in Chicago and the suburbs between May and August of 2010, prosecutors said.
"Bonaparte took sexually provocative photos of the three women and posted the pictures in Internet advertisements for escort services," the state's attorney's office said.
Bonaparte, who had the women call him "Magnificent," rented motel rooms in the city and suburbs where the women would live with him. The women would sometimes see eight to 12 customers per day and got none of the money, the office said.
Bonaparte, of 8025 S. Ridgeland in Chicago, was charged with trafficking in persons for forced labor or services, unlawful restraint, pandering and possession of a controlled substance.
The sheriff's office said Bonaparte has been arrested 55 times before, and has nine convictions for pimping, manufacture and delivery of cocaine, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft.
At the time of his most recent arrest, Bonaparte was out on bond after being busted for trying to recruit an undercover officer to work for him as a prostitute, officials said.
Bond was set at $75,000 cash Bonaparte today and is scheduled for his next court appearance on September 9.
