Date Rape Drug Test

Every Friday and Saturday night across the globe people go out on the town to let loose and put the problems of the week behind them. Bars and night clubs swell to max capacity, millions of cocktails and beers are served to individuals who are trying to achieve a buzz. Naturally, peoples' hormones go into overdrive and most are hoping to meet someone special who might share the early hours with them promiscuously. However, that is not always the case and countless people are rejected and are unable to achieve their goal, with alcohol coursing through their blood stream and the feeling of rejection in the back of their mind they are determined to fulfill their desires. Unfortunately, some individuals turn to "date-rape" drugs to paralyze young females in order to get them back to their bed.

Date rape is not a joke and every year thousands of women who planned on going out to have a good time end up waking the next morning to find that they have become a victim. In an attempt to protect people from tragic experiences like that, Israeli scientists have been working to create a tool to combat date rape by means of a test strip that people can dip into their drinks to identify whether or not their drink has been drugged.

In its final form, according to scientists, it may look like a drink stirrer that does a lot more than stir drinks. They tested their device on cocktails, soft drinks and other beverages. They claim the test is 100 percent accurate in testing for Ketamine and GHB, two common date rape drugs. Before the test strips release, scientists are trying to expand the capabilities of the test so that it will detect drugs known as "roofies", known in the medical field as Rohypnol, which is another common date-rape drug.

Scientists hope that the test strip will be ready for public use in the next two years.
